What CLC Ontario is

CLC Ontario is a free public directory of International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) practising in Ontario, and a directory of community programs that support feeding families. CLC Ontario is not a clinic, does not provide health care, and does not employ, supervise, refer to or endorse any IBCLC, program or helper listed on this site.

Independent practitioners

Every IBCLC listed on the register is an independent practitioner who is solely responsible for the care they provide, their fees, their records, their professional conduct and their own professional liability insurance. Any agreement for care is between the family and the IBCLC. CLC Ontario is not a party to that agreement and is not responsible for any act or omission of a listed IBCLC, program or helper.

What we check, and what we do not

Before a listing is published, we check that the IBCLC’s certification is current on the public registry of the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE), and we check again when it comes due. No listing goes up without that check.

Nothing else is verified. Professional liability insurance and current CPR and basic life support are self-declared by each IBCLC, and we don’t ask for certificates. A listing is not a guarantee of an IBCLC’s skill, availability, suitability for a particular family, or the outcome of care. Families can confirm certification on the IBLCE public registry and ask any question before booking.

Community supports

Programs in the community supports directory describe themselves. Their credentials, eligibility, costs and other details are as reported by each program and are not verified by CLC Ontario. Some hospital listings were compiled by CLC Ontario from public sources and are marked as not yet confirmed, and those programs are invited to confirm or correct them. Only individual IBCLCs on the IBCLC register have had their certification checked.

Research and figures

Figures on this site come from the published sources linked beside them, and every one of them is listed on the evidence page with its citation. They are provided for information and advocacy, and CLC Ontario makes no warranty as to their completeness or accuracy. If a figure is wrong, write to info@clcontario.ca and we will correct it.

Links to other sites

This site links to sites we do not control, including IBLCE, the Ontario Breastfeeding Clinic and the sites of listed IBCLCs and programs. We are not responsible for their content or their practices.

Relationship with the Ontario Breastfeeding Clinic

CLC Ontario was started by the founders of the Ontario Breastfeeding Clinic, a private clinic. The Ontario Breastfeeding Clinic’s IBCLCs are listed on the same terms as every other IBCLC, with no priority in search results. Care provided by the Ontario Breastfeeding Clinic is governed by that clinic’s own terms.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, CLC Ontario, its founders and its volunteers are not liable for any loss, injury or damage arising from use of this site, from reliance on any listing, or from care provided by any listed IBCLC, program or helper.

Removal of listings

CLC Ontario may decline, edit or remove any listing at any time, including if a certification lapses or information appears to be inaccurate. An IBCLC or a program may ask to be removed at any time, and the listing comes down.

Privacy

A privacy policy describing how we collect and use personal information is being written. Until it is published, questions about privacy go to info@clcontario.ca. Nothing about a family is recorded by this site: no booking, no name, and no postal code anybody has searched.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply in Ontario.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and the version number is recorded with every agreement somebody gives us.
